Good article, but RAID 1 has long been considered risky due to only the mirroring of data without parity calculations.

Raid 10 would best be suited and accomplished with 4 drives. This Raid 10 is actually a combination of Raid 1 and Raid 0. You end up with a mirror of a stripe.

worth looking into.

What is RAID10?

RAID10 is one of the combination of RAID1 (mirroring) and RAID0 (striping) which are possible. When N mirrored pairs are striped together this is called RAID10 because the mirroring (RAID1) is applied before striping (RAID0). A RAID10 system each and every disk block is completely duplicated on its drive’s mirror. Performance-wise, RAID10 are fast even during recovery. This give us the most bandwidth out of a limited quantity of drive while at the same time having complete fault tolerant data.

Guest Reader, WOW!!! Thank you so much for taking the time to write all this, I’ll admit that its over my head! *lol* but it does seem to be a better backup solution.
